Platform Professional Learning Navigator
Discover up-to-date information about platform-related learning opportunities
This week I’m excited to announce the launch of the Platform Professional Learning Navigator. This web-based resource is designed to make it easier to discover up-to-date information about platform-related executive education and other career development opportunities.
The number of platform courses offered by universities and private training organizations in the US, Europe, and Asia is growing. However, finding and comparing these courses can be challenging. It can be even more challenging to easily compare them to see what would provide the right fit as they differ significantly, not only in focus, but across other paramaters, such as when they are offered, the length, and the mode of delivery. Some courses can be completed in just two days. Others span multiple weeks. Some courses are in-person, others are prerecorded, and still others are a blend of the two.
The courses come at very different price points. Some are free (if you are not concerned with receiving a certificate of completion), while others run as much as $4,100 for two days.
View of platform course offerings
Our goal is to provide a global view of the platform focused courses and training programs available. This includes the following areas of focus:
Platform Strategy
Platform Data Management
Platform Privacy & Compliance
Platform Product Management
Platform Ecosystem Management
Platform Engineering
In addition to the aggregated course list, we also have included other information we hope will be useful. We have set up “Platform Wiki” pages to highlight key definitions and concepts, along with relevant articles for those who want to go deeper. We have a list of recently established “Platform Professional Communities”—i.e. The NTWK, Side Hustle Stack and Everything Marketplaces. Finally, we have added a page called “Hot Platform Professional Jobs.” Here are the platform roles we have listed, which are now under active search:
TikTok - Platform Strategist, Global Business Marketing
Warner Media Technology - Vice President, Platform Engineering
CapitalOne - Director, Product Management - Platform Strategy & Operations
Doctor on Demand - Director, Platform Products
The links to these positions can be found in the Platform Professional Learning Navigator.
I’d like to give a big shout out to my partners on this project— Maximilian Gutsche and Arun Singh Shekhawat.
Maximilian lives in Berlin and is a digital platform and marketplace/ecosystems specialist. He currently supports the British biotech startup Adaptive Diagnostics at all things digital strategy & service design.
Arun is based in Singapore. He has more than 15 years of experience as a platform product manager working for both startups and major international companies such as Bosch and Sapient.
Both of them are passionate about platforms. They also have extensive experience building platform products. Even more relevant, they have taken several of the platform courses listed in the Platform Professional Learning Navigator.
We are just getting started. Over time, we will add additional information, such as instructor bios and the type of certification, if any, is offered upon successful completion. We also plan to collect and share feedback on specific courses.
Through this feedback, we hope to be able to provide a better perspective on what is working and and what is not. Where are there gaps in platform-related executive education offerings? Which courses deliver and which fall short? Are current offerings aligned with the market demand for platform professionals?
A quick scan of the 16 courses offered this Spring shows a heavy emphasis on platform strategy. This contrasts with the volume of job postings over the past year, which weighs more heavily toward platform product management, platform ecosystem management, and platform engineering.
Give Platform Professional Learning Navigator a spin today. We’d love your feedback and any contributions you’d like to provide to make this a world-class resource for aspiring and established platform professionals. Here’s the link again: Click here
